Questions
Straight answers about what Sidebar does and what it keeps.
Sidebar records your meetings, writes the transcript and notes on your iPhone, and checks facts people state against public sources while they talk.
On your iPhone, Sidebar picks out statements a public source could confirm, like “Amazon was founded in 1994”. It sends only that sentence to our fact-check service, which searches public sources such as Wikipedia, Wikidata and web results and compares them with the sentence.
A coral card means a trusted source disagrees. A green line means a source confirms it. Tap either to open the source.
Only the single sentence being checked, over an encrypted connection. Never your audio, never the rest of the transcript, and no name, account or device identifier.
No. The sentence is handled in memory to answer that one request, then discarded. It isn’t linked to you. Our servers keep only timing and error counts, with no sentence text.
Public records and references: Congress.gov for bills, ClinicalTrials.gov and PubMed for research, Wikipedia, Wikidata, historic newspapers and the open web. Each card links to the original page. See every source.
No. There’s no sign-up, login or profile, and no tracking or ads.
Recording, transcripts and summaries do, after Apple’s speech model downloads once for your language. Fact checks need a connection; they wait and run when you’re back online.
No reliable public source settled it. Sidebar only flags a claim when a trusted source clearly disagrees, and forums never settle a claim on their own.
Summaries use Apple Intelligence. Turn it on in the iPhone’s Settings, or use an iPhone that supports it. Your transcript is always saved.
Yes, in Settings → Live fact-check. Recording, transcripts and summaries keep working.
Delete the meeting in the app. Its audio, transcript and checks are removed from your iPhone. Deleting the app removes everything.
